He served in the British Army during the colonial wars in America.Brian was a descendant of the British nobility and was a relative ofan officer in the British Army, by the name of Ward. His wife had diedin Ireland, so when his military service ended, Brian became a traderamong the Cherokees. Under tribal law, no white man could remainpermanently in the Cherokee country and the protection of the Cherokeechiefs unless he married into the tribe and made his home in tribaldomain.
