Jehu was born on an estate located five miles south of Hannibal,
His great grandparents on the father's side were natives of Scotlandwhence they emigrated to America and a became early settlers ofKentucky. Later they crossed the line into Missouri, first locatingin the Montgomery, but later became residents of Pike County, wherethey lived until their decease. The great-grandfather served as asoldier in the War of 1812, after which he was given a pension forinjuries received in that conflict. The father of our subject was alad of six years at the time his parents came to Missouri. He wasreared in Pike county and married Miss Nunn of Marion County and livednear the city of Hannibal until the decease of his wife, whichoccurred nine years later. He afterwards married Mrs. Mary Fenner,who lived until 1893. Mr. Stewart is still living, aged 82 years andresides 5 miles south of Hannibal.
By his union with Miss Nunn, the father of our subject became theparent of five children: Jehu T., of this sketch; Alexander,deceased; Silas; Mary J. and John Wesley, both deceased.
William Stewart, ll, the 4th child,( 3 Aug 1809 - 10 Aug 1904) isburied at Mr. Olivet Cemetery. He purchased land from his brotherIsaac and the US government in Ralls Co. Township 56, Range 4 West.He married Margaret Nunn, 4 Aug 1842. They had 4 children: JehuThomas, lll (21 June 1843-5 Mar 18931), William Alexander, lll(1845-1896), Silas Nunn (1846), and Mary J. (1849). Upon MargaretNunn's death, William married Mary Ann Glascock (Fenner) in 1861.They had 5 children: Robert Henry (1862-1905), Benjamin Franklin(1863), Phillip Abraham; Ellen (1867-1903) married Henry Boling 1 Jan1890, and Ann (1870- 1958) married Emmer Locke Herrington, 7 Sept1904.
