[1936] All data from Stewart. John was a driver on the Erie Canal. Heemigrated to Michigan in 1834. He was a missionary to the CherokeeIndians in 1836, was very prominent in church affairs, was a member ofArkansas Conference M. E. Church, practised medicine in 1844, was arepresentative to the Arkansas Legislature. He moved to Missouri in1862 because of his pronounced Union activities. He organized thefirst Sunday School in Lawrence Co., MO at Elm Branch.
