Jehu was 21 when he "enlisted in the late war as a member of CompanyH, 39th mo. Infantry, under Capt. Adam Theis of Hannibal. Heparticipated in many hard fought engagements, among them, beingCentalia, MO., where Company H of the 39th lost about eighteen men.They next met Gen. Price at Jefferson City, after which they wereordered to Nashville, TN, to reinforce Gen. Thomas and from that citywere sent to Richmond, VA., in charge of prisoners being twenty-onedays on the way. Company H then returned to St. Louis, where theywere mustered out of service 8-8-1865"

He has always been a hard-working man, which fact is the secrtet ofhis success. He has always voted for Republican candidates. His wifeis a consistent member of the Baptist Church. She is a most worthyand highly esteemed lady and has proved a true helpmate to her husbandin establishing a footing among the leading agriculturists of thecounty.
