All data from McDowell. The breaking up of the Carolingian Empire AD900 brought to light a great many more or less independent lords ofgreater or less degree, who would be united under the the risingfeudal system.
In 1196, during the time of the third crusade, we find mentioned aHendricus a Doersne (Hendrick van Doersen). It is not unlikely thathe was in the crusade, and that the cross in the Coat-of-Arms wastaken up by him.
During the next, the 13th century, members of the family arefrequently found in the "meyery van's Hertogenbosch" (the majorate ofBois-le-Duc), the part of Brabant in which Deursen lies, and where theLords Van Duersen kept up a kind of sovereign independency until theyear 1325.
On the 1st of March, 1325 Govert Van Doorsen acknowledged for hisliege-lord Jan III , the noblest Duke Brabant ever had. Govet VanDoorsen received back his ancestral property immediately in 1325, as ahereditary feudality, and thus it remained in the straight male lineuntil the end of the 16th century. (attrib to J. Under Jan the Third's daughter, Duchess Johanna, who died in December1406, Jan Van Duersen, possibly the grandson or great grandson ofGovert Van Doorsen, became lord of Duersen. He married in in 1419 toAleid van Bloemensweerde, and from his time on there is no break inthe family line down to Abraham Pietersen Van Duersen of 1607, andthrough him down to the American posterity.
