Athol Transcript - Tuesday June 23, 1908
George M. Amsden, 68, a well known Athol resident died at his home onPine Street Thursday night of heart failure. His health had long beenpoor, and for about two years he was unable to be at his work. He wasfor many years a valued employee at the machine shop of George M.Gerry & Sons. He was known as a carpenter and was an expert. Hisdeath is the second that has taken place in the Gerry force, JohnForbes dying a few weeks ago. Mr. Amsden was born in Petersham, andwas the son of Mr. and Mrs. Massena Amsden, and had lived nearly ahalf a century in the house on Pine Street where he died, and wherehis father lived before him. He leaves a widow, one daughter, MissLillian Amsden, and two sons, Frank of Athol, and Warren of New YorkCity. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the home, and Rev.J. A. Ticknor of the St. John's Episcopal Church officiated. Theburial was in Silver Lake Cemetery. Murray M. Brown, Descendents ofIsaac Amsden of Cambridge Massachusetts, (1934).

[354] Dr. Amsden was a physician. He graduated from Ashtabula High Schoolin 1888, Philips Exeter Academy in 1892, Harvard College 1901, HarvardMedical School in 1905. He was on the staff of Bloomingdale Hospitalfrom 1905 to 1924, most of the time as Senior Physican. He studied inMunich and Zurich from 1909-1910. He was appointed Professor ofClinical Psychiatry at Albany, NY Medical College (Union University)and attending physician at Albany, Hospital Director of PsychopathicDepartment. He is presently on the staff of New York Hospital, NY,NY. Murray M. Brown, Descendents of Isaac Amsden of CambridgeMassachusetts, (1934).
