American Indian Families

My American Indian connections are rather far back in my history.   My ancester Dr. Milo A. Hoyt married Lydia Lowry the daughter of George and Lucy (Benge) Lowry, Jr.  George's maternal line was Cherokee and he is said to have been a Chief of the Cherokee Nation.  Lucy's line was also Cherokee going back to Moytoy.

Milo and Lydia had two children who married into Cherokee lines.   Their son, Hinman married Elizabeth Candy whose line goes back to Moytoy on at least one side.  Milo's and Lydia's daughter, Esther, married James Ward, Jr. whose lines go back into Cherokee lines.

My only other possible American Indian connection is through family lore and has not been established in any way.  This family lore gives that a great great grandmother was of Blackfoot blood and cites that she served her community as a doctor using roots and herbal remedies.

While the basis for this section is the Cherokee heritage, many other families connect to those lines. Some of these family names are Bass, Bilyeu, Brown, Cox, Cutbirth, Durham, Ellingsworth, Gideon, Goodall, Goode, McGinnis, Nelson, Parsons, Patterson, Pettit, Romere, Seaman, Shannon, Squibb, Stewart, Tuttle, Welch, White, Wofford, Wright. Many of these families located in the southwestern part of Missouri and surrounding areas.

As with all compilations that I present, I make no claims as to authenticity. Other than that of my direct line, I have no proof of any data. While some of it seems plausible, I leave the responsibility of proving the truth to each person. I have source document originals and copies of some data and will gladly mail copies of these to interested individuals. When a seeming connection is made, I urge each to start digging for the real, positive, and tangible records that will make that connection reality and not mere speculation.
