Her obituary - Death of Mrs. J. M. Cain. A Good Woman Passed Away ThisMorning
This morning after an illness which has lasted several years, thesoul of Mrs. Martha Jane Cain, widow of the late J. M. Cain, wingedits flight to the God who gave it. During all her suffering Mrs. Caindisplayed a Christian fortitude that was beautiful and inspiring. Shewas surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Cain was 66 years old having been born in Rankin county, May,1834. Her maiden name was Martha Jane Hardy and she moved to this citywhen quite a young girl and was one of its oldest residents. She wasa sister of Mr. A. J. Davis, of this city, and leaves four children,Messrs J. W. and Harry Cain and Mrs. Lea Williams and Sallie Reed, allof this city to mourn her loss. Mrs. Cain was a devout Christianwoman being a member of the First Methodist church. The funeral tookplace at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon from the church and was conductedby Rev. W. C. Black, there being a large number of persons inattendance. She was laid to rest in the city cemetery beside herhusband, who preceeded her to the other shore some years ago. In theirbereavement the sorrow stricken relatives have the sympathy of a largecircle of friends.
