DEATH OF JNO. M. CAIN Buried Sunday Evening With Highest MasonicHonors
The community is again called upon to mourn the loss of one of itsoldest citizens - Mr. John M. Cain, who died at his residence Saturdaynight about 12 o'clock, after a long illness, heart disease being theimmediate cause of his death.
He was born near Augusta, Ga., September 11, 1830, moved to Jackson in1858, and had been a resident of the city forty years, and while of aquiet, retiring disposition was wellknown to our people and highlyesteemed by all. In fact, it is well known that he did not have anenemy on earth. He was correct in all his dealings with his fellowman, being scrupulously honest in business transactions.
Soon after locating in Jackson and engaging in business, he marriedMiss Martha J. Hardy, who, with two grown sons and two marrieddaughters, survive him. After losing his business by fire he engagedwith the late Henry E. Sizor, and was in his employ for many years. Hewas employed during the war in the quartermaster's department and inthe secret service of the Confederacy.
He was one of the most zealous and best known Masons in the state,having taken his degrees in 1867 and serving as a grand officerseveral times. He has been sentinel and tyler of all the Masonicorders in Jackson for the past 21 years, and has been more regular inhis attendance than any member of the lodge.
His universal popularity was proven by the enormous crowd thatfollowed his remains to their last resting place.

Well-Known Citizen has Passed Away - Jack Cain Died Yesterday In NewOrleans After a Short Illness
Mr. J. W. Cain, a well-known citizen of Jackson, died late yesterdayin a hospital in New Orleans where he went about three weeks ago formedical treatment.
Cardiac cancer was the cause of death. Mr. Cain had been in failinghealth for some time, and several weeks ago realized that the end wasnear. Examination by New Orleans specialists showed that surgery wouldbe of no avail in prolonging his life.
Since his boyhood days Jack Cain had been a familiar figure inJackson, Has occupied a conspicous place in the political life of thecommunity, especially in the realm of local politics, where he was aleader for nearly fifteen years. In early manhood he was a member ofthe police force, later serving several terms as jailer.
Endowed with exceptionsl business sagacity, Mr. Cain had acquiredconsiderable property interests, which he bequeathed, shortly beforehis death, to his two sisters and a sister-in-law Mrs. Harry Cain. Formany years he conducted a harness and saddlery store on South Statestreet, the business in which his father was engaged.
The body arrived from New Orleans last night and was conveyed to theresidence of a sister of the deceased, Mrs. J. P. Williams, 565 SouthWest street. Funeral services will be held at 5 o'clock this afternoonat Galloway Memorial church, conducted by Rev. Chas. W. Crisler,pastor of the Galloway Memorial Methodist church. The pallbearers willbe Messrs. Jake Ehrman, J. J. Baxter, W. S. Hamilton, Horace Perry,Dr. Will S. Hamilton, and J. Hunter Taylor.
