This same publication makes the confusing mistake in listing John ashis son but using the dates and at least one spouse of his grandson,John, son of Thomas on page 221. On this page is also given a secondwife to the grandson, Fannie Baker. On page 222, this Fannie Baker isgiven as the grandson John's brother Thomas' wife. The "FamilyRegister of Gerret Van Sweringen and Descendants" by a Member of theFamily, 1894 Edition, states that John was probably born in SomersetCo., MD about 1702 and seems to correctly give Fannie Baker as a wifeto his grandson.
Loewy's source gives his birth as circa 1696 with the place being St.Mary's, MD and the marriage date to Mary Ray as Feb 9 1715. Furtherit is mentioned that John's death data is not known and that the lastknown record was Oct 2 1767 when he gave his son, Thomas, power ofattorney.

Link with Karen Swearingen Taylor (karens@naples-fl.com) who givesboth John's first wife (name unknown) and second wife, as BettyFisher. Taylor omits Henry by first wife and Benjamin by Elizabeth(Betty) Fisher. Taylor names the son Jonathan of Elizabeth as John andstates that John had sons named John from each wife. Taylor lists nofurther generations from any of these offspring.

John Swearingen, son of Samuel, born between 1745 and 1750 inEdgecombe County, N.C. Died about 1804. Served as a lieutenant in theContinental Services during the Revolutionary War in a companycommanded by Capt. Arthur Simpkins. He was is the battles of KingsMountain, Guilford Court House, Eutaw Springs, and Cowpens. He was onthe Florida Expedition.
He was married twice, the first wife's name being unknown. However,the children of the first union are: Samuel (born 1773), John (born1775), Henry (born 1776), Bowling (born 1778), Fredrick (born 1779),Van (born 1780), Phoebe (born 1782), and Sophia (born 1788). Thesecond wife was Elizabeth Fisher. The children of the second marriagewere: Martin, Mary, Bailey, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Benjamin andJames H. There were also a son and a daughter who died in infancy.
Fredrick settled in West Florida.
The birthdates on the above children were found in Pioneers ofWiregrass Georgia, Vol. 2 by Huxford.
From the same book, Elizabeth Fisher Swearingen was in the 1827 StateLand Lottery in Laurens County and drew land as a widow as aRevolutionary War soldier.
The children (and some of their spouses) of both wives are also listedon the DAR application # 605287. The children (and all their spouses)of Fisher are also listed on DAR application # 603862. The names ofthese persons are as the DAR applications present them.
The Swearingen Family Historical Record does not list Henry but doesstate that a son and a daughter died in infancy.
