Note from McLeester - David is my seventh great granduncle in mymother's maternal line, while Mary is my 2nd cousin 8 times removed inmy father's maternal line.
Remington gives a comprehensive account of David's life that as adirect descendant I found facinating to read. "David Huestis's landholding in Westchester was early and extensive. Even before hisfather gave hinm land in 1704, he had purchased small plots of landfrom John Stanton and Joseph Boyles. He was the most prolific of hisbrothers in buying and selling land in Westchester, with no less thanfour grants from the town, eight purchases from private individuals,and eleven sales between the years 1703 and 1730."
According to Remington's article, David was involved in many disputeseven though as a Quaker he was constrained from litigation. On May 71724 the final report of the Flushing Monthly Meeting stated: "Thismeeting hath accompt from ye friends yt hath bene sent to David Hustedthe second time or from two of them that he declares he is none of usand that we have nothing to do with him Theirfore seeing he willfullyhas rent himselfe away from under ye govrnment of the Church:Theirefore we delare him to be none of us."
After his disassociation with the Quakers, David Heustis's nameappeared frequently in the dockets of the Westchester County Court ofCommon Pleas.
