To Caleb Haight, Esquire, - Greeting:
We reposing especial trust and confidence as well in your patriotism
conduct and loyalty as in your valor and readiness to do us good andfaithful
service, have appointed and constituted and by these present toappoint and
constitute you, the said Caleb Haight, Captain of the Company ofMilitia in the
tract where you reside in the County of Dutchess, in the Regimentwhereof
Roswell Hopkins, Esq. is Colonel. You are therefore to take the saidCompany
into your charge and care as Captain thereof, and duly exercise thatCompany
arms who are hereby commanded to obey you as their Captain, and youare to
observe and follow such orders and directions as you shall from timeto time
receive from one General and Commander in Chief of the Militia of ourown State
or any other of your superior officers, according to the rules ofdiscipline of war
in pursuance of the trust reposed in you, and for so doing this shallbe your
commission for and during our good pleasure, to be signified by ourCouncil
of Appointment, in testimony whereof we have caused our Seal ofmilitary
commissions to be hereunto affixed.
Witness our trusty and well beloved George Clinton, Esq., Governor
of our State of New York, General and Commander in Chief of all themilitia
and Admiral of the Navy of the same, by and with the advise andconsent
of one said Council of Apointment at Poughkeepsie, the twentieth dayof March
in the second year of our independence, and in the year of our Lordone thousand

During the war Caleb Haight joined the Colonial Army. He wasappointed Lieutenant and afterwards Captain in the years 1777 and1778.

Lewis supplied birth information, death day and month, and wife'sname. Craig gives his birth as 1706 and his death as Nov 2, 1779.Hoyt's Issue Vol. 5 1993 gives death place.
Craig sent the following:
"The last will and Testament of CALEB HAIGHT, SR., is as followeth.I, Caleb Haight, of Charlotte Precinct, in Duchess County, in myperfect mind and memory. All money due to me is to be called in by myexecutors, and the westermost equal half of the land whereon I nowlive is to be sold, and the money from said sale and the money due meis to be used to pay all debts. I leave to my wife Elizabethone-third of the benefits arising from the remaing part of my landsand one-third of my movable estate. I leave to my son Caleb themonies remaining after debts are paid. I leave to my son Josiah oe10. I leave to my son Benjamin the east half of the farm whereon Inow live, and he is to pay the following legacies. I leave to my sonNathaniel oe 10 a year. I leave to my daughters, Elizabeth, Abigail,and Elenor, all movable estate. I make my son Josiah and CalebMosher, executors.
Dated April 6, 1775. Witnesses, John Nelson, Aaron Haight, Jr.Proved, November 12, 1779. Confirmed, July 1, 1782. The executorsresigned, and Letters of Administration granted to Caleb Haight, Esq.
