Link with Wolcott who supplied all personal data. There were 11children in the family with the first 4 being born in Sumatra. Wolcottsent me a copy of the booklet from the Reunion of Descendents of theRev. Charles and Martha S. Evans held at the Westminister Hotel, NewYork City, NY on Saturday, Dec. 25, 1880. He entered the BaptistCollege of Bristol in Aug 1816. He was ordained Dec. 8, 1819.
Wolcott sent the following: "On Dec 24, 1819 Charles and Martha setsail for Sumatra. On Mar. 7, 1820 the ship reached St. Helena wherethey rested for 5 weeks. They saw the Emperor Napoleon who wasconfined at that time. On Jun. 9, they cast anchor in Beencoolen Roadsoff the island of Sumatra. Most of their years were spent at Pedang onthe island of Sumatra. On Dec. 29, 1826 they sailed for England. Susanwas born on Oct. 20, 1837 in Weymouth, England.
In 1841 Charles came to the US and Martha followed in 1842. Marthadied May 31, 1862. They were living in Brooklyn at the time. She isburied in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. Charles died Jun. 28, 1869 atthe home of his daughter, Susan Hoyt with whom he was living inStamford, CT. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery also".
