All data from Kinney. Jack received the osteopathic degree in 1918from the Kirksville College of Osteopathy. Prior to coming to Cameronin 1921, he practiced near St. Louis in Warrenton, MO for two years.Dr. Compton retired in 1965 from his profession but remained active incommunity affairs. In addition to membership in national and stateprofessional organizations, he was a member of the Chamber ofCommerce, the
American Legion Post, Masonic bodies and Moila Shrine at St. Joseph, a50 year member of the Rotary Club of which he served as districtgovernor in 1961-62, a member and past president of the YMCA Board,and was an elder in the United Presbyterian Church.
In 1958 Dr. Compton was selected "Physician of the Year" by theMissouri Osteopathic Association, and in 1971 was named "Citizen ofthe Month" by the local Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Compton was a strongforce behind the establishment of the Cameron Hospital in 1948. Thissame effort and energy were applied toward the construction of the newhospital which opened in September 1955.
