All data from McDowell. Seba came to the New World at the age of 4 onthe Good Ship De Trouw. The records show that Seba was married "in thepresence of the court". This means that he was not married by anordained minister. The marriage was performed by Voorseller R. VanGiesen. According to church records, the collection plate returned 2florins and 19 stivers that day. Winfields Land Titles of HudsonCounty, pg 79, states in reference to a patent granted to CasperStymets that lots 81, 95, and 116 comprising over 200 acres were soldby the patentee to Seba Epke Banta, who sold them Apr 6, 1693 to EliasMichaelse Vreeland. Seba Bonta, with his brothers, bought in 1695, alarge tract of land on the Palisades as noted in "The Banta Genealogy"pg. 11. He was the county commissioner of roads for a time. In1700, his name along with his brothers Hendrick and Weart (probablyhis brother Weart's son), appears among the signers of theRemonstrance of Inhabitants of East Jersey to the King against theActs of Propitiators and asking for the appointment of a competentGovernor. He is buried at the Dutch Reformed Church in Bergen, NJ.
Note from McLeester - McDowell gives Seba's birth as about 1654. Ifso, then the birth dates of some of his children are in question.
