All data from Burke and Schweyer. Margaretha Schweyer, oldest daughterof Johann Schweyer and Margaretha Moritz, was born February 22, 1837in Zuzzendorf in Alsace, France. Margaretha, named after her mother,was 16 years of age when she emigrated along with the rest of herfamily to Rainham.
She married Johann Nicholas Kiefer, son of Valentin BergmannKiefer and Maria Catherina Klein, in 1855. Johann was born December2, 1834 in Dermingen in Saarland, Germany. The couple purchased afarm in Rainham in 1872 and had 16 children, all but two of whom wereborn in Rainham Township. The other two children, Richard and Henry,were born in Aldoborough Township near Rodney, ON in 1878 and 1880where the Kiefers farmed for a while.
At the time of the move to Aldoborough Township, Margaretha andJohann's eldest son Nicholas stayed behind in Rainham, where he andhis son Elson continued to farm.
In 1885 Margaretha and Johann moved further west to CharingCross, near Chatham, ON, and then made one final move to Detroit, MIin either 1889 or 1890, according to family sources.
Margaretha parted this world March 18, 1894 in Detroit, MI. Herhusband Johann passed away August 4, 1909, also in Detroit, MI.
We have been met with only limited success in tracing this familyline due to the fact that the family had relocated to Michigan. Wehave, however, been much more successful in tracing Nicholas'sdescendants, who remained behind in Rainham. Information gathered fromfamily members over the years have supplied some of the missing dataon the American descendants. Both Margaretha and Johann are buried atTrinity Lutheran cemetery in Mount Elliott, in Detroit, MI. Sharingthe plot are their daughters Margaret, Louise, and Matilda, and theirson Charles Henry. Many of their descendants have been traced andrecorded in the following pages.

All data from Burke and Schweyer. Maria Schweyer, second daughter ofJohann Schweyer and Mararetha Moritz, was born April 29, 1845 inZuzzendorf in Alsace, France. Maria, more frequently know as Mary, wasonly nine years of age when the family left their native Alsace tosettle in Rainham.
At the age of 20 she married Adam Fess, son of Solomon Fess andMararetha Louise Klein. Adam was born March 2, 1844 in Zillingen inLorraine, France and had emigrated to the Rainham area along with hisfamily in 1847, six years prior to Mary's family.
The Fess family were German-speaking Lutherans as well and playeda prominent role in the early settling of Fisherville, much the sameway as our early Schweyers.
Mary and Adam were married July 11, 1865 in the presently-namedTrinity Lutheran chuch, Fisherville, ON.
Mary's older brother Jakob married Adam's younger sisterMargaretha
three years after Mary's marriage to Adam, making for a doubleFess/Schweyer connection.
Mary and Adam farmed in Rainham on different farms over the yearsand were blessed with 14 children. In 1900 the family moved toBuffalo, NY. In 1903, after having lived only three years in Buffalo,they returned to the local area where they lived out their remainingyears near Nelles Corners. We have had considerable success in tracingmost of the family lines of this branch.
Mary parted this world November 24, 1920 at the age of 75. Adampassed away in his 89th year on June 12, 1932. Maria and Adam werefaithful in the Lutheran faith all of their lives and are both buriedat Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fisherville, ON. Many of theirdescendants have been traced and recorded in the following pages.
