[393] Robert Bartlet was the founder of the Bartlet family in America. Hisvoyage from England on the ship Lyon lasted 12 weeks before reachingBoston Harbor September 16, 1632. He migrated from Cambridge toHartford with the Hooker band in 1639. Robert Bartlet was the firstselectman of the village of Hartford, and was granted 8 acres west ofthe present Lafayette St. He was made a freeman citizen in 1645 andin 1655. Along with 20 others he moved to North Hampton onto landthat had been purchased from the Indians, and again he was named firstselectman. He was killed by Indians in the King Phillip War on March14, 1676.
